Aim to include 5 – 7 portions daily. When looking at your dinner plate try to ensure that half your plate is covered with vegetables or salad.

3. Include Legumes: Beans, lentils, and chickpeas are excellent sources of protein and fibre with a low GI. They can be added to salads, soups, and main dishes. Try to include in the diet at least 4 – 5 days per week.

4. Be Mindful of Portion Sizes: Even low-GI foods can impact blood sugar if consumed in large quantities. Balance your meals with appropriate portions and include a mix of protein, healthy fats, and low-GI carbohydrates. Again when looking at your plate ensure half your plate is covered with vegetables or salad, quarter of the plate is protein foods and quarter of the plate is carbohydrate foods.

5. Limit Processed Foods: Processed foods often have a higher GI due to added sugars and refined grains. Focus on whole, unprocessed foods for better blood sugar control.
