The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were officially adopted on 25 September 2015 by all 193 UN Member States at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in New York.
They form part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a global blueprint for peace, prosperity, people, and the planet, consisting of 17 interconnected goals aimed at addressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice.
The SDGs came into effect on 1 January 2016 and are intended to guide international development efforts through to 2030.
